Onomichi and Surrounds

Innoshima, with its rich history as the base for the Murakami pirates, is a great base from which to explore other islands of the Seto Inland sea.  Notable tourist attractions include:

• The Myououin Temple (near Fukuyama station).

• Kosanji (Setoda city).

• Buttsuji (From JR Mihara Station, take a bus for about 40 minutes, and get off at Buttsuji).

• Innoshima Pirates' Castle (From Innoshima Habu Port, take a bus for about 20 minutes, and get off at Suigun-jo Iriguchi. 10 minute walk.

• Mount Shirataki (ride to the centre of Innoshima).

Hiroshima Flower Festival:

When:  May 3-5.

Where:  Along Heiwa Main Street and the near the Peace Park.

What:  Festival, parade.

Fukuyama Rose Festival:

When:  May (middle).

Where:  Rose Park (click here for map).  15 minute walk from Fukuyama station.

What:  Rose display, music festival, parade, stalls.

Fukuyama Summer Festival:

When:  August 13, 14, 15.

Where:  Main Shopping Street (near Fukuyama Station); Fireworks over Ashida River.

What:  Parade and fireworks (last day).

Mihara Yassa Festival:

When:  2nd week in August (Friday-Sunday).

Where:  Mihara station.

What:  Festival, fireworks.

Innoshima Fire and Sea Festival:

When:  Late August.

Where:  Shimanami beach, Ohama town.

What:  Boat race, festival, fireworks.
