| Getting to Innoshima (Onomichi): Our headquarters are located on
Innoshima,
the main island on the chain of islands connecting Shikoku with Honshu. We
are in an urban area, 16km from historic
Onomichi city
in
Hiroshima
prefecture.
Public transport in Japan is not difficult to use as major signs are in
English and Japanese. Japanese are very helpful and fairly proficient at
written English. Online timetables may be translated with http://translate.google.com.
Air Travel:
The cheapest way to Onomichi is to fly into
Kansai Osaka airport and take a
train or bus to Fukuyama or Onomichi. We can meet you outside
Fukuyama station (Mcdonalds) or Onomichi station (Mr. Donut).
Alternatively, fly into Hiroshima airport, where we can meet you for the 30
minute drive to Innoshima. Most international flights to Hiroshima airport
arrive from Asia. Expect to pay 10,000 to 12,000 yen to add an
additional segment to your international flight. Both
JAL and ANA offer specials
for international travelers.
Osaka Hotels:
If your flight were to arrive at Kansai airport after
9pm, it may be impossible to arrange transport
back to Innoshima that night. There are many good value hotels around Shin-Osaka and
Osaka Nanba.
Train:
Trains leave from outside the second floor of Kansai
airport (use the overpass to cross the road). The JR train
to Shinosaka takes 50 minutes. The Nankai train to
Shin-Osaka (change at Osaka Nanba station) takes about the same time. Take
a bullet train from Shinosaka to Fukuyama city (63 minutes). The total
cost is about 9,000 yen for the 2 hour trip.
Intercity Bus:
Buses leave from outside the first floor of Kansai
airport. You could take a bus into Osaka Nanba and another bus from Nanba to Fukuyama
or Onomichi. Alternatively, take a bus from the airport to Okayama and a
local train from there to Fukuyama. The total cost is about 5,000 yen for
the 4.5+ hour trip.
Local Bus:
If you were adventurous, you could take a local bus
from outside Fukuyama or Onomichi station and get off
at our school at Kanayama port. We would reimburse the cost to you (1,300
yen).
